Vending machine is called ‘Jidouhanbaiki’ or ‘Jihanki’ in Japanese.
If you visit a city, you’ll see lots of vending machines.
However, the systems vary depending on the company operating them.
In cash
Most vending machines accept 10-yen, 50-yen, 100-yen and 500-yen coins, as well as 1,000-yen notes.

First, insert coins or a 1,000 note.
Second, push a button to get a bottle of drink which you like.
Third, take the bottle.
You can cancel by pulling the lever.
With a contactless payment terminal

Usually, you have to push a button first, then use the panel or buttons to confirm your payment method.
When you want to use a Credit card or an IC card like Suica, hold them up to the terminal.
When you want to use QR payments like WeChat, once you have selected your payment method, a QR code will appear on the screen.

Scan the QR code on a vending machine.
Select the item you wish to purchase from the web page displayed. Then choose your preferred QR payment method.

You have to install the app to use this.
Open the app, press the vending machine button, and hold your smartphone close to the machine’s scanner to connect. Select your payment method and choose your item.
